Art is the process or product of deliberately arranging elements in a way that appeals to the senses or emotions. It encompasses a diverse range of human activities, creations, and modes of expression, including music, literature, film, sculpture, and paintings. The meaning of art is explored in a branch of philosophy known as aesthetics. The definition and evaluation of art has become especially problematic since the early 20th century. Richard Wollheim distinguishes three approaches: the Realist, whereby aesthetic quality is an absolute value independent of any human view; the Objectivist, whereby it is also an absolute value, but is dependent on general human experience; and the Relativist position, whereby it is not an absolute value, but depends on, and varies with, the human experience of different humans. An object may be characterized by the intentions, or lack thereof, of its creator, regardless of its apparent purpose. A cup, which ostensibly can be used as a container, may be considered art if intended solely as an ornament, while a painting may be deemed craft if mass-produced. Traditionally, the term art was used to refer to any skill or mastery. This conception changed during the Romantic period, when art came to be seen as "a special faculty of the human mind to be classified with religion and science". Generally, art is made with the intention of stimulating thoughts and emotions. The nature of art has been described by Richard Wollheim as "one of the most elusive of the traditional problems of human culture". It has been defined as a vehicle for the expression or communication of emotions and ideas, a means for exploring and appreciating formal elements for their own sake, and as mimesis or representation. Leo Tolstoy identified art as a use of indirect means to communicate from one person to another. Benedetto Croce and R.G. Collingwood advanced the idealist view that art expresses emotions, and that the work of art therefore essentially exists in the mind of the creator. The theory of art as form has its roots in the philosophy of Immanuel Kant, and was developed in the early twentieth century by Roger Fry and Clive Bell. Art as mimesis or representation has deep roots in the philosophy of Aristotle. More recently, thinkers influenced by Martin Heidegger have interpreted art as the means by which a community develops for itself a medium for self-expression and interpretation. But think I will need someone a little more artistic than myself to help with designs. And/or someone who shares a similar vision for an outdoor, leisurewear company to bounce ideas off and come up with logo's etc. Any ideas on where I can find such people? I want to get into serious photography, and I'm looking to buy a camera that is good for artistic photography (macro, portrait, landscape) but would also like a casual shot capability (family trips.. etc.) I had my eye on the Sony DSLR a350. Does anyone have it? What do you think of it? (and if you don't have it) What would YOU recommend for a good digital camera? DSLR or not? Good brand? Any input is great! :) Asked by Sketchy K - Sun May 10 02:17:40 2009 - - 3 Answers - 0 Comments A. Check these out (links to owner reviews, professional reviews, and detailed specs are on the page): I would go for any of these three, but I would prefer the Samsung GX-20 simply because its dust and weather resistant seals make it more suitable to my own personal needs. Plus it has (very slightly) better features than the other two. :D:D:D Answered by Noland Voyd - Mon May 11 19:36:16 2009 What steps should I take to help my sons artistic talent?
Q. My son is 3 and is definitely talented in art. When he was 2 he drew a picture of Princess Leia with side buns and all. He could also color in the lines. (When he went into his sister's Kindergarten class the teacher said he colored better than a lot of her students) What steps should I take to help him increase his artistic talent? I was thinking of signing him up for Young Rembrandt Preschool art classes through my cities parks and recs. Any other ideas? I took serious art lessons when i was little and hated them. just give a lot of positive feedback. as he gets older, if he still draws, be completely honest with him about his drawings, don't tell him he is great just because he is your kid. my mom was harsh about the quality of my drawings and i would grumble about it, but then i would go back and resolve the problems. I also knew that the quality had to be there for her to tell me it was good so it challenged me to always put in my best effort. The best way to get great at drawing is just to have lots of paper and pens available for when the mood hits him. that's how my grandma raised me and now I'm a professional illustrator. you can challenge him… [cont.] Answered by Heavy B - Tue Aug 26 03:51:25 2008 From Yahoo Answer Search: "Artistic" Artistic Japanese Floral Show at the Domes
