Employment is a contract between two parties, one being the employer and the other being the employee. An employee may be defined as: "A person in the service of another under any contract of hire, express or implied, oral or written, where the employer has the power or right to control and direct the employee in the material details of how the work is to be performed." Black's Law Dictionary page 471 (5th ed. 1979). In a commercial setting, the employer conceives of a productive activity, generally with the intention of generating a profit, and the employee contributes labour to the enterprise, usually in return for payment of wages. Employment also exists in the public, non-profit and household sectors. To the extent that employment or the economic equivalent is not universal, unemployment exists. From Wikipedia under the

I work for Bennigans in southern Florida when it was a corporation and now the company has gone bankrupt. I need to find out my employment dates. Thanks! Asked by carly h - Mon Jul 20 17:08:40 2009 - - 4 Answers - 1 Comments A. Hello Carly: Your best bet is to use your old W-2's (from your tax returns) to piece together the dates. Approximate dates (month & year) are okay for prospective employers. They won't be able to verify with anyone at Bennigan's anyway, since they're out of business. If it was more than 3 years ago, your references aren't going to include any of those people either, unless you still work with some of those people at other places, since leaving Bennigans. Also, the Social Security administration would have the dates of Bennigan's contributions to your SS accounts. You can request a copy of the contributions report from Social Security under the social security number used for those earnings. Good luck in your search.
