Career is defined by the Oxford English Dictionary as an individual's "course or progress through life (or a distinct portion of life)". It is usually considered to pertain to remunerative work (and sometimes also formal education). The etymology of the term is somewhat ironic in that it comes from the Latin word carrera, which means race (as in "rat race," a pejorative implying the opposite of a useful career). A career is mostly seen as a course of successive situations that make up a person's occupation. One can have a sporting career or a musical career without being a professional athlete or musician, but most frequently "career" in the 20th century referenced the series of jobs or positions by which one earned one's money. A person's worth is often measured by the career success or failings. It is not until an individual matures and takes possession of their life that the realisation of life balance occurs. Life balance entails separating career activities, achievements and tasks from the rest of a persons life. For example, leaving the job at work and having a home life. Learning that career is necessary to meet the needs of life and also have a life as well. From Wikipedia under the

I used to work in accounting (years ago) and have been working with computers for about 15 years (programmer, db, java). I am thinking about changing careers but REALLY like the money I get now. What careers are out there for a 30 something male that still needs to support a family? Asked by prrose99 - Sat Aug 26 15:52:31 2006 - - 4 Answers - 0 Comments A. You really don't have a lot of options when you have the responsibility of a family. Your first duty is to them. In my case, I changed careers about 3.5 years ago from secretarial to private auditing. But even as a secretary I changed jobs a lot and worked in a wide variety of industries and their respective departments. Maybe you're less bored with being a programmer than you are with the type of company you work for. Stay in the field but go someplace else. Answered by misslabeled - Sat Aug 26 18:42:23 2006 What are some careers that I can work with money and numbers besides accounting and banking and entry level? Q. I really do love math and problem solving and like working with numbers. Just want to know what career options there are for people who love numbers and math, and not teaching. This would also be entry level since I'm not ready to go back to school at the moment. If these careers require additional schooling, you can list those also. Thank you. Asked by A. R. Answered by Lucky Cat - Mon Feb 26 11:14:28 2007 What are the best careers or degrees to hold as a military spouse?
Q. I am looking for careers or degrees that travel well from location to location or those for which you can telecommute. I'm looking for actual military spouses with experience in this realm. Also, advice contrary to a certain career would be helpful as well. (i.e. I was a nurse and had trouble getting recertified each time we moved...) I have a bachelors degree in Communication and I interned in HR. I am interested in getting my master's soon, but I'm debating into which field I should enter. Any advice? Asked by Megan W - Wed Apr 30 16:14:14 2008 - - 1 Answers - 1 Comments A. I'm in the same boat. I have a bachelors in anthropology, but there is not much that I can do with it since we have to move every 2-3 years. I am working as an admin at the moment and there is a future at my company, with the option of telecommuting when we psc again. But I really would like to get a masters degree but have no clue what to major in. Though I am not at all interested in it, you could always get your MBA. They are pretty versatile and so long as you are stationed near a big city there are almost always corporate jobs. Answered by Jamie - Wed Apr 30 18:21:06 2008 From Yahoo Answer Search: "Careers"
