Fine art describes any art form developed primarily for aesthetics and/or concept rather than utility. This type of art is often expressed in the production of art objects using visual and performing art forms, including painting, sculpture, music, dance, theatre, architecture, photography and printmaking. Schools, institutes, and other organizations still use the term to indicate a traditional perspective on the art forms, often implying an association with classic or academic art. From Google News Search: "Fine arts" How to educate yourself in the fine arts? Q. I graduated college a few years ago and do not have the time to go back and study the fine arts I wish I had back then. Now when I am at dinner parties and social events, I don't feel that I can hold my own in conversations about great literature and fine art. My question is: what would you recommend to educate yourself on the fine arts? Perhaps you can recommend a reading list of great literature as well as texts on the great works of art? This is very important to me and I will be very grateful for any input! Besides better conversations, I'd like to become more acquainted with the fine arts so that I can be a better writer. I feel so uninspired lately... :-( Asked by jayne_galaxy - Mon Mar 26 15:07:12 2007 - - 5 Answers - 0 Comments A. Q. I am close to getting a degree in fine arts through community college and I would like to move on to university. But, I would more than likely want to change my major to something like psychology. Is this possible, or does it just differ from school to school/state to state? The main issue being, switching to a different associates program would require taking a lot more classes. Check out the requirements for an AA in general transfer- the core courses are representative of the basics most universities want you to have. I'm not positive but I'm thinking your fine arts degree allowed you to 'concentrate' on a more specific area (art courses & such) thereby letting you 'skip' some of the basics required of a general education (sciences, math...) I recommend obtaining a copy of the psych degree requirements as well- if you have electives left you can most likely take some courses that will allow you to get an AA plus transfer into the psych program. Also because education is expensive- you might want to talk to a counselor at the university you are planning to attend to double-check the transferability of the… [cont.] Answered by Kelly M - Mon Aug 25 08:28:42 2008 where can i find a college in wisconsin that offers a fine arts program?
