From Wiktionary under the GNU Free Documentation License. In geography, a country is a geographical region. The term is often applied to a political division or the territory of a sovereign state, or to a smaller, or former, political division of a geographical region. Usually, but not always, a country coincides with a sovereign territory and is associated with a state, nation or government. The country can also mean the countryside, as opposed to the city. In common usage, the term country is used in the sense of both nations and states, with definitions varying. In some cases it is used to refer both to states and to other political entities, while in some occasions it refers only to states It is not uncommon for general information or statistical publications to adopt the wider definition for purposes such as illustration and comparison. Some cohesive geographical entities, which were formerly sovereign states, are commonly regarded and referred to still as countries; such as England, Scotland and Wales β in the United Kingdom. Historically, the countries of the former Soviet Union and Yugoslavia were others. Former states such as Bavaria (now part of Germany) and Piedmont (now part of Italy) would not normally be referred to as "countries" in contemporary English. The degree of autonomy of non-state countries varies widely. Some are possessions of states, as several states have overseas dependencies (such as the British Virgin Islands, Saint Pierre and Miquelon, and American Samoa), with territory and citizenry distinct from their own. Such dependent territories are sometimes listed together with independent states on lists of countries, and may be treated as a "country of origin" in international trade, as Hong Kong is. Some countries are divided among several states, such as Korea and Kurdistan. From Wikipedia under the

What is the best country to study abroad in for a high school student during the summer? Question Details: Please share any input reguarding past experiences in a perticular country or countries and information on the people, food, and enviroment. Im an extremely flexible person and will eat anything you put in front of me. I would very much prefer to have at least some if not extensive teachings on such country's language and culture. Thanks a ton! Asked by Evan - Sun Apr 27 20:52:42 2008 - - 2 Answers - 0 Comments A. I've studied abroad (year after high school) in Germany and (now) in Poland. Germany is pretty Westernized. Most western European countries are very American and the food is relatively similar to American. I liked Germany when I was there, but the area I was in, the people were very cold. It's a gorgeous country, though. German is not such an easy language, but almost everyone knows English. It's also really close to a number of different countries, if you wanted to travel a little. Poland is very different. I ate pig's blood a few days ago (which is totally normal here). The people here are really nice, but in Warsaw people don't smile as much. There's been a lot of problems in Poland because of Germany and (former) Soviet Union and a… [cont.] Answered by laska - Mon Apr 28 14:09:57 2008 Why every developed country has prostitution if the most people from there have good education? Q. I think that if a country is developed, the most people from there have good education and conditions to work in what they really want to be happy! And nobody would like to be a prostitute to be happy...So, why is there prostitution in every developed country?I don't achieve to understand it! Thank you by the atention! Asked by Renan - Fri Mar 14 20:40:09 2008 - - 16 Answers - 0 Comments A. Actually you are raising an interesting question. But to me, your line of logic is a little bit "biased". Consider the following: suppose some 80% (a purely hypothetical number) of a developed country have "good education", do you automatically consider that this percentage is also true for the prostitutes? Then if true, following your logic, they would prefer not to be as such and would choose alternative sources of income. But you see that this is not true. This is the first point I want to make. Secondly, just let me remind you of the famous so-called "red-light" district in Amsterdam. What percentage of the "workers" are actually Dutch you think? I doubt at most 10% maybe? Again, I don't want to speculate on numbers, just to give you… [cont.] Answered by ArArAt - Fri Mar 14 21:14:48 2008 What country could I compare Vietnam to in a comparative politics essay?
Q. I have to come up with a country comparable to Vietnam and find a difference between them and describe why they may have developed differently in that specific area. Asked by HASTHEANSWERS - Thu Apr 16 14:46:59 2009 - - 2 Answers - 0 Comments A. If one has to find a country to compare with VN, no other country seems to be more suitable than Japan. Thirty-five years after WW2, in 1975, Japan was a highly developed country, and a multiparty democracy. VNese meanwhile have had to live in a dictatorship since the end of the VN war. There is no freedom that the people in Japan take for granted. Freedom of the press, of the assembly, of speech are only wishful thinking in VN. Nobody knows exactly how many people have fled VN on the thousands of overcrowded, rickety boats in search of freedom and a better life in the West nor can anyone know how many lost their life on these trips. Yes, Japanese travel to the US on comfortable planes, and VNese in the roar and dangers of the ocean.… [cont.] Answered by Buratino - Sat Apr 18 00:17:15 2009 From Yahoo Answer Search: "country" Five places: Country livin'
