From Wiktionary under the GNU Free Documentation License. Music is an art form whose medium is sound organized in time. Common elements of music are pitch (which governs melody and harmony), rhythm (and its associated concepts tempo, meter, and articulation), dynamics, and the sonic qualities of timbre and texture. The word derives from Greek μουσική (mousike), "(art) of the Muses". The creation, performance, significance, and even the definition of music vary according to culture and social context. Music ranges from strictly organized compositions (and their recreation in performance), through improvisational music to aleatoric forms. Music can be divided into genres and subgenres, although the dividing lines and relationships between music genres are often subtle, sometimes open to individual interpretation, and occasionally controversial. Within "the arts", music may be classified as a performing art, a fine art, and auditory art. To people in many cultures, music is inextricably intertwined into their way of life. Greek philosophers and ancient Indian philosophers defined music as tones ordered horizontally as melodies and vertically as harmonies. Common sayings such as "the harmony of the spheres" and "it is music to my ears" point to the notion that music is often ordered and pleasant to listen to. However, 20th-century composer John Cage thought that any sound can be music, saying, for example, "There is no noise, only sound." According to musicologist Jean-Jacques Nattiez, "the border between music and noise is always culturally defined—which implies that, even within a single society, this border does not always pass through the same place; in short, there is rarely a consensus.... By all accounts there is no single and intercultural universal concept defining what music might be, except that it is 'sound through time'." From Wikipedia under the

I currently hold a bachelor of science in Biology, but I have a lifelong background in music, specifically vocal music. I've been researching master's programs, trying to figure out what the right program is for me to go into. It would be wonderful to combine my interest in music with my background in science. So, now I'm interested in Music Therapy. What is the average salary that a music therapist makes a year? Asked by Tamara - Wed Nov 1 17:15:32 2006 - - 1 Answers - 0 Comments A. I have looked up music therapist on a website that my school uses to help kids see what type of career they would like to do and music therapist isn't in it. Instead i found Music teacher/instructor and they make $25,000 - $50,000 with benefits. Don't know if that helped but it was worth a chance. Q. Well I have the music and I play baritone but the problem is how do I memorize it? I'm good at memorizing piano music but our marching band music has different times so that is gonna mess me up. I need tips on memorizing fast and well and I don't have a home baritone, I play the school's baritone. And yeah this is my first year in marching band. I need to memorize quickly because rehearsal for the music is near the end of july!!! Please help! Asked by fadedglory35 - Sun Jun 22 10:56:37 2008 - - 18 Answers - 0 Comments A. My suggestion would be to play over it as often as possible. Go through and look for similar patterns and find ways to help yourself memorize it. Even when you don't have the baritone, go over and do the fingerings on a pencil (or something more suited to your instrument - I played flute and that was easiest for me) and hum the music under your breath. Marching music isn't terribly complicated, so I would suggest that as long as you just practice the fingerings over and over again, you'll get a good general idea of how it goes. I think you'll find that once you get there, there will be a lot of people who don't have a total handle on the music. It'll look good for you if you do, but even the strictest marching bands (I came from one) aren' [cont.] Answered by bailey michelle<3 - Sun Jun 22 11:07:49 2008 From Yahoo Answer Search: "music" Music is an art form that involves sounds and silence.
